The Good News About Money
Group Study Guide
This powerful message confronts one of the most challenging topics in our spiritual lives: the relationship between money, possessions, and our faith. Drawing from Luke 12 and James 5, we're reminded that Jesus spoke extensively about money not because the church wants something from us, but because He knows how easily wealth can become a false god in our lives. The core truth is revolutionary: life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. Jesus, who created everything and owns everything, warns us to be on guard against greed because He sees what we cannot—that life will one day come about, change directions, and we'll stand before eternity. The rich fool in Jesus' parable had everything materially but entered eternity empty-handed, rich in this world but impoverished in the next. The good news isn't about giving to get, but about realizing how much we've already been given. Though Jesus was rich, He became poor so that through His poverty we might become rich. We've been lavished with the riches of God's grace through redemption. Having received so much, we're set free to give generously, not out of obligation but out of overflow. This is the life Jesus offers—a life where it truly is more blessed to give than to receive.
