Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

This week's sermon takes us to one of the most pivotal moments in the Gospels, where Jesus asks His disciples the ultimate question: 'Who do you say that I am?' Set against the dramatic backdrop of Caesarea Philippi, a place literally known as the gates of hell in ancient times, this teaching reveals why our answer to this question is the most important spiritual decision we'll ever make. The location itself is fascinating - a dark place filled with pagan temples and worship of false gods like Pan, where people believed the entrance to the underworld existed. Yet Jesus intentionally brings His followers to this very spot to declare that His church will be built on the confession of faith that He is the Messiah, the Son of the living God, and that even the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. We're challenged to move beyond secondhand faith - what others say about Jesus - to our own personal declaration. Like Peter, we're invited to proclaim our belief not just intellectually, but with our whole lives. The message reminds us that we might not have an eyesight issue when it comes to Jesus, but we might have an insight issue, still discovering the fullness of who He really is. This isn't just ancient history; it's the question that defines our spiritual journey today.
