A Mountaintop Experience

What happens when God breaks through the ordinary and gives us a glimpse of something far greater than we can see from where we are standing? That is exactly what this message explores, using the account of the Transfiguration in Mark chapter 9 as its anchor. Peter, James, and John were not expecting what happened on that mountain. They were walking under the weight of hard words Jesus had just spoken about suffering, rejection, and the cross. And yet, in the middle of that heaviness, God pulled back the curtain and let them see Jesus in a way they had never seen him before. His glory was undeniable. Moses and Elijah appeared. And a voice from a cloud said something that reoriented everything: this is my beloved son, listen to him. The message draws a powerful parallel between those ancient disciples and us. We may never stand on that literal mountain, but most of us have experienced moments where truth became unusually clear and God felt unusually close. These mountaintop moments are gifts, but gifts that can be wasted if we do not understand their purpose. They are not destinations. They are not about chasing a feeling. They are about seeing Jesus more clearly so that we can follow him more faithfully into whatever the valley ahead holds.
