A Better View of Marriage

What does Jesus actually think about marriage and divorce? That question cuts closer to home than most of us would like to admit. In Mark 10, we find Jesus being tested by religious leaders who wanted to trap him in a cultural debate about when divorce is permissible. But Jesus refuses to play that game. Instead of picking a side in a centuries-old argument, he goes all the way back to the beginning, back to Genesis, back to the original design. Marriage, he says, is not a legal arrangement that lasts as long as both people are happy. It is a fusion, a God-designed joining of two lives into something entirely new. That reframe changes everything. When we understand marriage as something God created and defines, we stop asking how quickly we can get out and start asking how faithfully we can fight for what we are in. And fighting for a marriage does not mean fighting against each other. It means learning to serve, to forgive, to listen, and sometimes to humbly ask for help before things go too far. This message calls us to hold God's design for marriage with both conviction and compassion, recognizing that following Jesus in this area will often put us out of step with the culture around us, and that is exactly the point.
